Clothing Trends for Spring & Summer ‘08

Started by tofugu · 1 year ago

Now that we’re safely out of winter, it’s time to lighten up! Put away your fuzzy scarves and down-filled jackets and opt instead for floaty fabrics and bright colors. Below are a list of some of the more popular styles being featured in Japanese fashion magazines this season. Unfortunately, I don’t usually read men’s fashion ... Continue reading »

  • great article. makes me wish i was a girl! jk
  • Haha, creepy. Thanks :D
  • I see bikini pants are out of fashion.

    Darn.
  • I bet you just went out and bought a pair, too. Bummer.
  • Yeah.. A birthday gift for a certain someone >.>
  • muy bueno... bien compleo! Tks... =^.^=
  • haha spanish in a japanese blog...makes me wonder why im making fun of spanish when im writing in english..=O

fue un bien post erin gracias por todo jaja
  • It's a great time of the year to be living in Japan!
  • HAHAHA. The bikini jeans article was one of my favorites. It showed Erin's sarcasm at one of its highest points. This is a good article as well.

Ugh this was suppose to be a reply to Erin. I hate it when I screw up logging in.

Anyways... School is over. Japan in less than 2 weeks!
  • Haha, yeah, not much to be sarcastic about right now. Hopefully in the future, though, an opportunity will present itself for me to break out the snark. Anyway, congratulation on being done with school for a year, and have fun in Japan!
  • Thanks. Graduation is round the corner. Then three days later Japan.
Thank God for final exemptions. I only had calculus... haha.
  • Congratz! I'm also graduating soon, 6 days to go actually!

Chiffon and colorful denim is the way to go, I've never really liked vests, and that goes for men's fashion too :)
  • great article, thanks!
  • Another great article about seemingly innocuous things from Japan. You don't get this kinda stuff reading "Minna No Nihongo" and it would have been pretty awkward if I'd asked my tutor about female fashion in Japan... :o)
  • Neon windbreakers?! 90s much? XD

I don't know. I like the colored denim and the blazers.
  • ...EVERYTHING comes back in style eventually... *sigh*
  • A lot of it is really cute, but I myself am not that fashion forward...I can't really see myself pulling off colored denim...Does black count?!
  • You could always try some cobalt blue or something closer to normal denim color, if you wanted. You'd be surprised how well red can work, too :D
  • I never would have thought of that! Thank you! When I go shopping in a few days I'll definitely give those a try...
  • Oh, this is so handy! Thanks for writing an article on current fashion trends! I'm going to Japan in two weeks, so I'm doing all my shopping tomorrow. I was wondering what trends were going on at the moment so I'd know what to buy. Thanks so much!
  • You're welcome! Make sure to check out the three websites in the first paragraph, as well, for more ideas. Have fun in Japan!
  • >.< I like the fringe boots.. but I live in the prairies and I love boots, so I guess it was inevitable.

The article was great! The trends in Japan look so effortless.. and I guess you would need a certain personal aesthetic to pull it off
  • Hey! This was definitely a good read. I need to go get some new shoes ~. Thanks Erin!

is my favourite japanese fashion site, it's mainly male orientated though.

warning, if you think spending £300 or so on a pair of jeans is ridiculous that website is not for you.
  • Thanks for the suggestions! Unfortunately, these are the types of clothes that look great on cute Asian girls, but look rediculous on me (a medium-sized white American girl). Why is that? :)
  • Ditto. I don't think those clothes would suit me either, specially when all my outfits are the total opposite.-_-
  • cuz ur a medium sized American girl. i think you answered your question
  • It's all about the way you carry yourself :3
  • woah the cloths dont really make sense and i saw the guys fashion from one of the links it made them look like old ladies from here o.o
  • A lot of people are into colored skinny jeans where I live, but all I really care about are socks. Knee socks to be exact. Over-the-knee-socks are my favorites! There are so many different styles of them too! . . . Okay, maybe I'm being a little weird, sorry!
  • Erin, you should post some of the styles for guys. that would be preeetyy awesomeee.
  • hmmm cute styles!
could you give me any, maybe,
websites to order off of with the cute chiffon
    prints? they are adorable <3
  • That was a very informative article, thanks!
Now I *know* I'm a hopeless case as far as fashion is concerned. ^^"

I like the chiffon dress too. It has to be nice to see girls/women wearing bright colors on the streets. It's interesting to see how colors, shapes and materials considered as "fashionable" vary from one country to another. I mean in France, it can get really random. A friend of mine got told that she looked good in that light shade of grey/brown called "mole". To say she wasn't flattered would be a rather big understatement.
  • Most of these fasions are the same here in the U.S.
Like the colored jeans, vest, not so positive about the sports jacket though.. xP
  • I don't understand why the boots are "fashionable", But I will say however that the ones in the links of "Hollywood starlets" are just medieval boots, and, assuming you won't be on your feet all day, are some the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn in my life. they're like cool, breathable, leather socks, with a soft rubber sole. Crazy comfy. They do however look retarded with modern clothing. Lol.

Also, don't mind me, I'm a crazy medieval history/re-enactment dude, guy, thing.
  • my daughter love the colorful jeans, and to me its also fit for the young and old ones.the collections are very gorgeous and fabulous.
  • so pretty,,, they are so fashionable i love the designs i wanna have one of those
