    omg dont even joke, i heard rumors back then about there being one and i still here rumors circulating thats theres gona be one, there was even a cast list and bpoy was it god awful so dont even joke. Hollywood has to either get fresh people with new ideas or just stick to wrecking they're own recycled over-used stories and leave other cultures alone, anime does not need to ruined by the likes of live-action hollywood versions. they've done enough already! >_>

    There is actually a even older Live Action version of Dragon Ball that I have seen, Dragonball: The magic begins... I can't say that it is better, but it seems to be a bit mor accurate to the real story... Master Roshi is atleast muuuuch better!

    Considering the name "Mr. Popo" is already a reference to someone who is african american, I don't think The Cap'n was being racist. It's better than picking a white guy and then black-facing him like they did in old plays. Now THAT'S racist.

    OMG, I tought this whole DB movie thing was a joke, can't belive they rly made 1. It looks like anything but DragonBall >_> ugh...
    When they made the Matrix, they were inspired by the animation Ghost in the shell (correct me if I'm wrong plz ^^) but at least The Matrix was pretty good, wasn't it?
    What did they do now? "Uh let's take DragonBall, the anime was a good hit, why shouldn't the movie be one?" dumb fuckers.

    I'm sure most would disagree, but with a big enough budget... a good director, and the original writers of Cowboy Bebop, it could actually work...

    Much better then Dragonball at least... especially since its based in a much more realistic world...

    I'm in NO way implying they should do it... but if they did I wouldn't get my pitchfork and torch right off the bat

    Actually, I kind of agree. It's just that all those things don't usually come together. I don't want to hope for much because then I'll be heartbroken. What I would love, though, is if Keanu Reeves would lipsynch Steve Blum throughout the whole movie. Steve Blum has the best voice ever ♥

    I can relate to the feeling...

    Not exactly the same thing, but I have always been a HUGE fan of Garfield (ya know the fat orange cat from Sunday newspaper and the cartoon way back when)

    When I saw they made a movie for it I absolutely refuse to see it.. I know they ruined it.... I just can't bring myself to see it..

    And to comment on that, I thought it was a joke, but since its real, I have to say... I don't think Keanu is a good actor at all, but I always seem to love his movies (Action / Sci-Fi ones at least) I have been told his "Romantic" movies are bad... but I have no idea, I would have to be heavily bribed to watch one of them, haha

    'The Lake House' was romantic, but it had a great sci-fi element to it. My wife and I both loved it, and I think Keanu was a good enough actor in that. I don't think the reviews gave it much credit, but we liked it. :)

    I only saw about the last 10 minutes of the Lake House, haha. I liked what I saw, though I couldn't help feeling that the Reeves-Bullock pairing is a bit overrated. Or maybe I'm just jealous?

    This is my first time to post a comment although I've been around enjoying this blog mainly to
    study English by reading something I'm familiar with.

    When I saw the photo of the woman playing Mai, I thought she's Eriko Tamura, who makes appearance in Heroes 2, playing a role of Hiro's girlfriend. I searched on the Net and confirmed that she is the one who plays Mai in DB.

    As you might know it she was an idol singer in Japan and after quitting her carrer in Japan, she moved to US to pursue her carrer in American show business.....After years of struggle, she finally won the role of playing Hiro's girlfriend and I think that led her to getting this job of playing
    Mai in DB.

    first off Speedracer was baller, Emile Hirsch is a fantastic actor. The world of dragonball is such an unrealistic world and it looks like the director is trying to put it in his own realistic image.. whatever give it a chance, from chatwin's previous roles he doesn't really seem fit for Goku butttt he could pull it off.... look at a guy (his name is too holy to speak) who went from starring in a chick flick (10 things i hate about you) to playing the most baddass villian of all time (Dark Knight)

    While this movie looks pretty bad, I don't think it'll be as bad as everyone thinks. It'll have a modest theatre run then go to dvd in the fall (now you can own the worst anime-turned-live action piece of crap ever). I think a japanese company should have done this project. It would still be crap but at least the characters would be accurate. Go see Dragonball The Movie, it was done in the 80's and starts at the beginning of the Dragonball saga. The movie looks like Power Rangers but at least you might be able to sit through the first 20 min.

    Now that I've forgotten about the trailer and just now watched it again, I take back my previous statement.........well the first part of it anyway. It looks like Fox is doing a re-imagining of the franchise where the Goku is some kid that grew up in a city, has no idea about dragonballs or matial arts (or a very rudimentary knowledge) and the rest of the movie progresses something like Karate Kid (I'd rather watch those movies than this and they sucked too). It's, tired, old and extremely formulaic, a formula, I might add, that died with the early 90's. As I said above, Watch the japanese version, it looks at little better than this.

    Welllll, I never really watched Dragonball (only seen a few episodes here and there...I thought piccolo was a good guy...?), and I think I'll go see it. :P

    I don't know...either I have no taste or I just don't have high standards for Dragonball since I didn't watch it...but I think going to the movie will be fun. (although...I have to admit that even I can tell that the casting is rather off... >.>).

    But I showed the trailer to my friend this morning and she was really dissapointed. :/

    Well let's hope America doesn't ruin Akira either, also supposed to be released next year I think, the story is so good you it'd be hard to mess it up. Anyways I'd give Dragonball a download, or buy it on DVD, I like collecting bad movies like Battlefield Earth and In the name of the King, I think Dragonball will earn a place next to them.

    I must admit, the guy that does Grandpa Gohan looks a lot like it, but that's probably the only good cast choice they made.

    I don't care what anybody says about this movie because i will give this movie a chance reguardless on what people say about this movie because i am a big Dragon Ball Z fan that's been waiting for a long time for this movie to finally be a live action film and now it's finally coming next year. I hate it when most People badly Judge this movie without even seening the whole movie first and people should stop judging a book by it's cover. I am very jealous of Justin Chatwin because he's the first actor ever who gets to play as my absolute favortie fictional character (Goku) ever in a real Motion picture live action movie. I wish it could be me that gets to play as goku in that movie. I hope this movie will be good.


    p.s The Dragon Ball movie trailer was kind of good. I can't wait to see Goku does his Kamehameha wave in the movie.

    The cast is pretty lame no matter how big of a DB/DBZ fan you are, and I have to disagree with you about the trailer. They are probably going to lose most of their fan base, like most of the people on here, with that really really really terrible trailer. Its okay though denial can be a close friend. :P

    Hahahahahahahahaha, oh they're serious? Who on earth thought that this feeble offering of an action film would be worth the money to make it?

    Where's the comedy? All the actors look like they are taking themselves too seriously! The trailer looks the same as any other 'martial arts' style movie made in Hollywood to me, and that just spells instant boredom.

    I certainly won't be rushing out to the cinema to catch this turkey before it flops into the bargain bin at Woolworths!

    I am probably going to be shouted down for this (which is why I left it out of my original post) but...

    I always felt that dragonball was a poor imitation of Monkey anyway. But there doesn't seem to be anything of Monkey in this film either.

    And for anyone who has ever read Monkey, it isn't much like the TV series, but I liked both for different reasons.

    I just feel that Hollywood is getting more and more unimaginative with it's offerings lately.

    Stormriders 2 has taken too long to come out also..

    As far as I'm concerned, things that come from Japan should not arrive at the States altogether. All they happen to do is make shitty ripp-offs thinking they can always do better. Let it be anime, let it be videogames-to-movies, let it be japanese horror films (we all know which ones (リング?)). And oh, now they've done the same with a Spanish horror movie too (renamed Quarantine)...
    I call it lack of ideas!!

    So I've seen, it's EXACTLY the same. Different actors, different language, the same film. They were too good to just dub it, they had to REMAKE the whole thing. I suppose because they thought they acted alot better (I call it vanity). But, never know... I may be wrong...

    By the way, I saw the original in the cinema... and it WAS creepy. One of the best horror movies I've seen in a long time (just an opinion, alot of people I know said it was crappy xD).

    Actually i quite enjoyed the SMB movie hahah.

    Perhaps if we keep putting this movie down and expect the worst we may actually enjoy it when we see it. One things for sure, its not the dragonball we once new and loved.

    All of them, great actors, who could do a way better job. This movie is going to make me cry, and not in a good way.

    Oh wow. After I saw this trailer I kinda just sat back and whimpered to myself for a bit. My mom tried to console me with, "Oh honey, it's -DragonBall-! Not everything will be the same..." That kinda just echoed in my head for a bit. How about, "NOTHING IS THE SAME."

    All though, no matter how bad this might turn out, I will see it. Maybe it won't be so bad??

    About the Goku needing to be a Japanese guy thing, remeber that Goku is supposed to be an alien from another planet, so he isn't necessarily going to look like someone from Japan. But I don't really care either way, so whatever.

    I really think that no matter what you do, translating *ANIMATED* characters into *REAL LIFE* will never be 100% Successful. The only people I have ever seen make it happen is disney, and they wake up and poo movies.

    I believe that so long as the characters personalities are correct, and the relative plot is followed well they have done a great Job in bringing a nearly thirty year old animated series into this era.

    have anyone seen the soccer ball movie. In which that soccer team were like dragon kids. It was interesting the animations. The action is more like funny rather than thrilling myself.
