Alternatives to Rosetta Stone Japanese (i.e. Should I buy Rosetta Stone?)
Of course if that didn't convince you, I made a little something that might persuade you?

it's not that funny, but thanks for considering. C:
You know this is a pretty awesome end to my night, I just finished a 7 page paper. now I can celebrate by STUDYING. whooo. P;
I'll send you a free serial as soon as possible ^^
Yesterday I spent half an hour trying to find cough medicine before giving up and settling for Calpis instead (didn't work!). Cough drops? Nope, wound up with candy.
Last week I tried to get a delicious cream bun but wound up with a (wrong kind of delicious) katsu curry bun! Are you delicious curry bun? Yes. But sometimes I'm in a fried pork mood and sometimes I'm in a sweet cream mood and the two are not interchangeable.
All I want is cream buns, Tofugu, cream buns. Help me out.
Why should I deserve it?
I love Japanese !! and you ^^it's true! anata wa sugoiiiii desu!
as well as everybody else here on Tofugu !
I would love to speak Japanese so I can go to Japan and go sakura watching ^^ and eat Hanami dango *teehee*
and more important:
Godzilla would have wanted it that way !
please!!!!!
From Sweden I am making a run,
moving to Japan to have some fun.
Winning this software would be nice,
there would be happy tears in my eyes.
Haha... xD
I wanna brag to my friends about knowing how to say more than just "issho ni uchi ni ikamasen ka."
昨日髪を変わりました。今ピンクですよ!w it's crazy, NEONcrazy!
Godzilla says I should win
Haiku is the best

Only in a fortnight shall I be taking my dirigible across the Pacific, with hopes of landing in the careening metropolis of Tokyo. I have, however, been plagued on such journeys in the past by these little pink hot air balloons, weaving through the clouds—I do not know for what nefarious purpose they were sent, but now I see the only way I have a chance to finally make it to Japan will be to practice with an appropriate flight simulator such as this. Perhaps I can admonish those damned pink balloons once and for all, with the experiences that this program would allow me. The fact that I'm going to have to write an immense test the day after I arrive to see what program I will be placed in, and that this would truly help in my studies? Indeed, that is just a bonus!
Sincerely,
Captain Andrew of the H.M.S. OhdeargodIhavetoknowalmostathousandkanji.
I want this dang thing
and stole baby Godzilla
he is in danger
his dark eyes look sad with hope
this software can set him free
I just want to pass the stupid JLPT level 3 without resorting to evil or magic or evil magic.
If I can make it so particles can't kill me, then I am sure nothing will!
An iPhone version would be a great addition!
If there will be enough sales of the desktop version, and if there are enough people interested in the iPhone version, I'll definitely port it to that platform (Cocoa seems to be quite easy and similar to ActionScript). I may also port it to Windows Mobile (as it's my platform of choice) and possibly to Android.
furigana as you "learn" a kanji and move on to the next level). It makes it
easier to read, and gives people more opportunity to see more kanji. But,
this is such a small criticism, and not something that would blow a sale
with me.
You should definitely go iPhone! Lots of buyers out there, I bet. You'd have
to stick more with the kanji / particle games, though, as it would be much
more difficult to type things in. It would fit perfect with the ability to
press your finger on a balloon as it's going down to choose your answer.
Absolutely perfect section port, and I think even better than what the
desktop app can offer. I'd buy it along with hundreds or thousands of other
people as well, I'm sure.
Just a humble request from me. I'm just beginning and don't know any kanji or katakana (well, a bit of katakana) and would love to study with the program.
Thank you for the post
Also the chance to study
Here's five syllables
I still don't know why this is wrong.... ---> 私はテレビです。
the end have a nice day
lol Kirby Dance! <(^_^<) ^(^_^)^ (>^_^)>
I would like to win this game because i have a hard time studying because i get distracted easily, oh and i like games so ill probably play it a lot and not get bored that fast.
the end have a nice day
lol Kirby Dance! <(^_^<) ^(^_^)^ (>^_^)>
Here's the reason why I should have that price: http://mylinguistics.wordpress.com/2009/06/05/l...
Is a blog post okay? I hope it is.
Early congratulations to whoever wins! :3
If you want to help a poor, broke college student like me who's in desperate need for a copy, then please give one to me. XD I'll be grateful for all eternity.
1. i woulds like it a lot for practicing my knowledge times
2. being able to read the labels of the food items i receives that are japanesey in originy
3. Mostly, because I am a lifelong student of language and culture, especially of Japan. My income is sparse and shared by my loved ones and do not warrant me spending our limited resources on something that is not food, shelter or clothing.
thanks yous,
p.s. your site is the bees knees and i am using a lot of the free online resources when i have the time when i'm not working: just being honest not trying to dredge up sympathy. ugh.
though, my Japanese is not unlike spoiled cabbage
I just hope people won't gape
at my gross, stuttering rape
of the volatile, catfish language.
"Nihon-go no sakura
fly fast on balloons."
わたし の さえずり お きいて ください。 ありがと ございます! ^ー^

I was all up in Godzilla's grill the other day, and i was all like, "homie g, i seen this app a while back and i thinks i need it yo" and Godzilla was all like " you DO good sir, you do, but you have no way of purchasing it, but i could help......." and i was all like " YOU COULD, how?" and Godzilla cordially replied " my good friend Koichi is gonna be giving some away in a while, maybe i could hook you up!" and i was all like "EEEEEE! ( term of excitement)" and gave Godzilla a huge hug, but then he forgot who i was, and ate me, so now i'm a computer ghost ( cause that's what i choose to haunt, it was either a computer or a block of old cheese, which would you choose?) and i spend all day doing nothing cause the owner of my house will not buy any good programs. i think i deserve this so i can fulfill my dreams , learn Japanese, and go to Japan to haunt a Japanese computer! EEEEEEE!
I've tried to go to school to learn Japanese a couple of times. Unfortunately I have been ill and it was too much physically for me. I still really want to learn so am trying every day to study on my own even though Japanese study materials are expensive. My dream is to be able to spend some time in Japan and be able to communicate with people there. And possibly find work again using these skill. I know it's not an easy thing to do, but at least it's giving me something to hope for the future.
I know this all sounds corny, but it's my life, something I don't talk about with others. I guess this means something to me and it's why I'm writing it here.
Thank you for your generous offer, I'm sure whoever wins will be happy getting the program.
I want Nihongoup.
You know I want Nihongoup.
Please give it to me.
Sankyu. :D
I found my thank you card the other day when cleaning and moving tons of furniture.
I really should study... again... haha. I almost registered for a summer class but time with work and stuff gets in the way. Life's busy.
Thanks for the good posts! Sadly, I'm not a top commenter anymore, but thanks to RSS (which I didn't know about till Tofugu, ha) I keep up.
Keep it up!
I've been trying to learn Japanese but it's just hard for me to remember the characters (Hiragana and Katakana).. Haven't even tried learning Kanji yet..
I think this could help me recognize the characters easier and faster.
I so wanted to learn to be able to start reading Japanese ^_^ .
Everyone was all at the park
And every dog did bark.
they arfed and they woofed,
they rarfed and they hoofed
And it was quite the lark!
That's a limerick random one too.It may be Irish,but it's still a poem!
My japanese must be thriller,
like the scare from godzilla.
My kanji i must know,
so the people i can show.
come rain, wind or snow,
im studying japanese below(my roof)
I have tons of notebook where I wrote up pages of hiragana signs like I did in elementary school.
A softwear like this would help me out a lot, I guess
I bought some comic books in Japanese and I can't even understand what it 's written on..
Wish to be able to read them as they were my cup of tea one day :)

Anyways, a slightly shooped screenshot of one of my conversations on June 02 (all relevant names removed to protect the not so innocent) is my desperate attempt to get a code.
Here is a picture i made for a copy :]

If you are thinking of getting one for yourself and you need a second opinion please check out the review I did of Nihongoup last month.
Grab yourself a trial version, you won't be disappointed.
I am also a Apple fanboy, albeit without a Mac but as a more fortunate Apple fanboy, it is your duty to provide for you less fortunate brethren who didn't get SIX *hint *hint free copies.
Noblesse Oblige.
Next week, I'm graduating from high school (yipee!, finally) and I'll be starting my first year at university on east Asian studies and also it'll be my first year learning Japanese (at university as well)
This is a big step for me since I've been looking forward to this for as long as I can remember...I mean, I don't know how I started loving Japanese media and blogs like Tofugu, but I know for sure that I won't be giving it up that easily. I will be using a lot of the tools you've discussed on your site (which have helped me more than any online tutor I've ever had) and hopefully make my way into the Japanese language, the proper way, once and for all!
Well, there it is. It's not as witty or needy as those who have already won, but I hope that the fact that I'm gonna be studying the language at university helps me get this sexy prize lol.
Either way, I'll still be reading Tofugu, and I'll still participate in every contest until koichi morphs into Godzilla one day and is unable to use his fingers to type on his mac...
Hint: As you've probably noticed, although we like text, we also LOVE all kinds of pictures—whether they are static or moving at 24fps—and we definitely don't mind witty blog posts or any other creative ideas ;)
I'm super serial about Japanese.
And I need more J-learning apps...
Is this thing still going on? Anyways 毎週テレビで日本のドラマを見ているうちに、日本語に興味を持つようになった。I just found out about this site yesterday and I think it's awesome。 I think I should get a copy of this software because I only started learning Japanese 3 weeks ago which means I need a lot of help :D Furthermore, I am learning it all by myself and I try to learn at least 1 hour of japanese everyday。 Right now I can pick up some words and phrases in Japanese dramas but if I want to understand more I'll have to get a copy of this software!so PLZ PLZ PLZ pick me PLZ
