The Japanese McDonalds Menu (I’m actually lovin’ it!)

Started by tofugu · 8 months ago

Surprisingly (to us Americans, maybe), McDonalds all over the world has different menus to cater themselves to the locals. Even in Hawaii, you’ll find things like ramen, Portuguese Sausage / Eggs / Rice Plates, and tarot pies. Japanese McDonalds, of course has it%2 ... Continue reading »

  • If only the Mega Mac looked like that when it came out! It's a prick to eat but tastes OK.
  • I'm still not convinced! I'd love to see Jamie Olivers reaction though...
  • Awww you didn't blog about mcbakery!!! I love the cinnamon melts, no matter now unhealthy that may be :P
  • I love the cinnamon melts too - but I only talked about things that are only available in Japan (or things that I thought were only available in Japan). I eat cinnamon melts all the time here!
  • hmm.. do the objects come as illustrated in pictures?

object is what I call'em cause they look weird when they are out. REALLY weird, ran over by a car weird,
  • True that. Sadly, no, they don't look like the images above in real life :(
  • I work at a McDonalds. Let me tell you, when we're making the actual burger it looks just like on the posters and advertisements. I think it's the wraps or something, because as soon as it's wrapped/unwrapped the burger looks like crap.

    That's always puzzled me.

If you want something to taste as good as possible, ask for it to be made with fresh meat. You'll have to wait 5-10 minutes for it to cook, and depending on what it is you might need to let it cool down before taking a bite..but it makes things taste a whole lot better :)
  • can you do that?
  • Some of those look surprisingly tasty despite my disdane for McDonalds... D:
  • Teriyaki Mac Burger looks good. YUM YUM!
  • that look all tasty things !!!!! *_* I definetly want to try the Shrimp Fillet-O lol !!
  • Not a fan of the Mega Mac. It's hard enough to hold together a regular Big Mac without it collapsing into a pile of lettuce and special sauce, so the Mega Mac is an exercise in futility. Plus, as you noted, it's too big to fit in ANY human mouth.

The Mega Muffin, on the other hand, works. Beautifully, I might add. I think it's because there's no extra layer of bread in the middle.
  • Nice stuff.. been awhile since i been here.
you should do a contest where you give away a megamac.. tat should be an exciting cholesterol rollercoaster to remember.
  • So no nuggets, or chicken by itself (other than that shaking thing)?
  • Hahaha.
    McGriddle is good.
    Chicken Fillet thing is good.
Didn't try a mega mac thing... I was going to but didn't.
Shaka Shaka chicken is the way to go.
Fanta is awesome! I accidentally bought some weird gummy fanta in a convenience store thinking it was just the drink. It was still good though. It was like, jello in a can.
I don't really like getting coffee, cause I'm not much of a coffee drinker, but I bought one of the iced coffee drinks there, thinking it was all mixed already, but it was black and I got barely any sugar or "gum syrup?".
  • Aww, megamac is an experience to have! Next time, you gotta try it!
  • I want to go to Japan again. :)Like this summer.... alone or with friends,
    haha.
  • The Mega Mac and the Mega Muffin can be ordered in the US. Like most major fast food establishments, McDonalds will accept custom orders as long as they have the food material.

The US equivalent for the McPork sandwich is the McRib, which has a huge cult following.
  • Ooh, never thought about that. Good point!
  • ~runs to McDonalds~
  • I'd definitely go for the Shaka chicken and the Potato pie for a quick meal.
  • Koichiben flashbacks anyone? :O

    >The Japanese Ebi Fillet might even rival an In-n-Out burger, though that might be pushing things a little bit.
    BLASPHEMY!
    ... :P

I think I might try the shaka shaka chicken. Looks fun. :)
  • The Shaka Shaka Chicken and the Teriyaki MacBurger look wicked awesome. Unfortunately for me, I made a bet with a friend that I wouldn't eat McDonald's again till I went back to France and had a Royal avec fromage (with cheese). I plan on going to Japan first so it looks like I might have to break my bet which will have been ongoing for 3 years by the time September '09 rolls around. Quite the dilemma, I know.
  • I must say, the shrimp burger was pretty good, if not better than a lot of the things served here in the U.S.
  • Hmmm.... Ginger Ale isn't usually available in US fast food restaurants? It's almost always inside Canadian fast food restaurants.
The Teriyaki burger looks cool, and I'd like to have a contest with one of my friends to see who could eat a mega mac the fastest :)
  • Nope, ginger ale is extremely rare in restaurants here period; even in the supermarket it can be hard to find.
  • I miss the Tsukimi Burger...
  • The bacon lettuce burger is pretty gross. It's more like undercooked bacon and soggy lettuce. :( I was hoping for a bacon cheeseburger-type thing.

I used to drink Qoo but after the kids at the schools did a study on the amount of sugar in drinks, I've stopped. I don't remember exactly but it was up there in the soda range. Back to green tea for me.
  • I remember reading that bacon in Japan is generally served soggy and undercooked. So gross.
  • I can't believe I missed the Croquette burger...and the potato bacon pie!!!
The shaka shaka chicken is a definite win though - totally delicious and only 100 yen!
When I was tight on cash in Osaka my lunch would be a two course meal at 300 yen....
  • I ate my first cinnamon melts 1 week ago. Love them!!!
in Holland they don't have them so I should eat them as much as possible while I'm in Japan then XD
  • Oh, so they do have cinnamon melts there? (They have them in the US too.)
  • I know I've been told say nothing if you don't have something good to say
but, I'm not a big fan of mcD's.(well in america)
but one thing that did catch my eye was the Teriyaki Mcburger and the Shrimp Thousand-Island Wrap :d
once i go back to Japan i would have to step in and taste those!
ps the shaka shaka chicken is looking mighty tasty haha
  • I usually only eat Mickey-D's while traveling since it is so bad for you, but I will admit it is delicious! It looks like Japan gets more creative with the meat, might have to try it when I'm down there, looks yummy :D
  • Wow, this just made me so hungry. Fortunately, I live in an apartment complex that is right behind a McDonalds, so I can walk there in 1 minute. Unfortunately, half of the things I want to eat -- the things on the Japanese menu -- won't be there.
  • that all looks really good!! i really want to try the shrimp related foods cuz i have a soft spot for anything shrimp. though i'm surprised. i thought that there would be more fishy foods in the menu and that would serve alcohol like our friends in germany (please correct me if im wrong about germany). but i really wish our menus were as diverse and crazy as other countries cuz then it might entice me to actually eat there....ah well.
  • Ahh, the Ebi Fillet-O looks so tasty. That'll be one of the first things to get when I get to Japan. Along with the Shaka Shaka Chicken, Teriyaki McBurger..... and some Qoo.
    haha =]
  • Ah I remember eating the Chicken Ceaser Wrap, as breakfast.....always a ridiculous amount of sauce >_<. Anyone else find this happen to them? Or am I just a wimp when it comes to sauce?
  • i want that mega mac!!!!
  • I want it all!! ^_^
  • i will eat everything!!but i think that maybe the best is...Mac Griddle Sausage & Egg Cheese!!
  • hey koichi!

haven't been able to say hi lately . . .sorry

nice article, but i just finished watching supersize me in health class so this is a pretty touch subject for me . . . yeah .. .

btw . . . didn't you eat the mega mac before in one of your koichiben videos or am i going crazy . . . i'm going to go check later . ..

    anyways have a nice day

    don't forget to vote!
  • found the video . .. it wasn't a mega mac, it was a regular big mac . . . yup . . . i wonder were i got the mega mac from then
  • I have a mega mac video...somewhere...maybe on erin's youtube account,
    maybe?
  • my mouth is watering, just looking at all these pictures and reading about them
    wow
  • The mega mac.... ugh. v.v
As someone who works in fast food making sandwiches, that MegaMac must be a bitch to make, and nevermind that, wrap! T__T -shudder- And I thought the Triples from Wendys were hard to squish down!

I have to admit, some of those burgers that have a more asian flavour to them do look a heck of a lot more appetizing compared to their all beef counterparts over here. I also noticed there's a lot less chicken on the menu, any particular reason why?
  • When I was in Japan, I tried the Ebi Filet-o and the teriyaki burger..and to my dismay.... the shaka shaka chicken with the cheese packet. The chicken was the only thing I hated outright. The rest = LOVE!
  • On account that this is mostly digression, would you eat something with a chocolate flavored spread that used shrimp in it?
  • Ooh, I'd want to try the thousand island shrimp wrap and the shrimp-fillet...Mmm, shrimp. They should serve shrimp at McDonalds in the US...
  • Wow.

I am a vegetarian but I have to admit the stuff on the menu looks good.

I am thinking about becoming a pescitarian. That would make a visit to Japan much easier.
  • i liked the shrimp burger very much...the mos burger in singapore has a similar one but it's small and hard! yuck!
  • If you take two double cheeseburgers
and stack them on top of each other
youll get a decent idea of a Mega Mac
(I had no trouble eating it lol, but my host family was like 0_0)
  • You can get a mega mac in Canada(I think)it's just called a double mac.
  • Ah man, you guys are lucky :(
  • The best burger in the world teriyaki burger plz someone put it on the british menu. mcdonalds in the uk is so boring.
  • no one has mentioned that the McPork was once here in the US and called the McRibb. Soo salty and short lived :(
  • Big tasty pwns
  • I had the MacPork once...and well...it's rather....flat. Even by Asian standards. Couldn't even say that it tasted like pork =_=">. O well, that's what you get for messing with a good old "beef" patty.
  • Do the eggs actually have the yolk in them like pictured? Here the egg is sliced off some kind of egg log and it's all yellow and dry and not good. The ones in these pictures look really yummy!
